Daylesford is a quaint and scenic retreat from the crowds and traffic of the cities. Originally settled in the 1850s due to an alluvial gold rush, it is now more famous for the bubbly natural mineral waters, which flow freely from the numerous springs located within and near this historic town, and its beautiful lake, mountain and forest scenery.

There are several hotels located within the town, from the budget to the luxurious. Many are set within beautiful locations, so that even those at the lower end of the market offer a higher level of accommodation in Daylesford than those in the cities. The Lake House is an historic building, with beautiful gardens incorporating waterfalls and picturesque flora. Some of these motels and hotels are surrounded by natural bushland, and are designed with balconies so that guests can interact with the native fauna at dusk or in the early morning. This includes extensive birdlife, and such animals as wallabies, kangaroos and possums.

The Double Nut Chalets are also set in lovely gardens, at a less expensive tariff. Additionally, Daylesford offers many other alternatives for those who prefer self-contained accommodation for their holidays. Cabins and lodges are available in a range of budgets and group sizes. Possum Cottage allows families or large groups to stay in a quiet location with waterfront views. Lovely scenery is a feature of most properties, adding to the peacefulness of the town and its surrounds.

Hostels offer a holiday alternative for those on a very limited budget. The Wildwood Youth Hostel in an historic house, with rooms at very reasonable prices which are, though, of a very good standard. The hostels in Daylesford are of a higher standard than many of those of larger towns and cities, so that even the cheapest accommodation offers a comfortable stay.

‘Bed and Breakfast’ establishments are numerous. Most are located within beautiful gardens or natural areas. Some are quaint historic properties, combining a stay in Daylesford with the ambiance of Victorian times. Bed and Breakfasts are often located close to the town centre, and provide exclusivity, luxury and pampering for those who choose this form of accommodation from which to explore the town and its many attractions.

A distinctive feature of many of the types of accommodation is the availability of wellness and holistic treatments. Spas and massage facilities are offered by a large number of the hotels. There are also unique Spa Resorts which make use of the naturally abundant spring waters of the area. This region contains Australia’s largest concentration of natural springs, and these are a popular tourist attraction.
